As a liveable metropolis Hamburg scores high with top executives, tourists, and creative heads. This also makes the city more attractive as a real estate location.

Hamburg is changing – and not only its looks. More than ever, the metropolis is a magnet for creative heads, domestic and foreign, entrepreneurs, tourists, and last but not least, students. Hamburg University, for instance, recently experienced a record demand with 53,000 applicants for its 8,500 places to study.

Hamburg is also the champion in the annual ranking of federal states conducted by the Initiative New Social Market Economy. According to the survey, the city enjoyed the strongest increase in employment last year next to Berlin. These dynamics are here to prevail. The Federal Office of Statistics anticipates an increase of 97,000 households in Hamburg until 2030. To attract mainly young talents, the campaign “You are the one Hamburg is still missing“ has been launched. Candidates can win a free one-year stay, including accommodation and work.

Several success factors play a role. Hamburg is increasingly perceived as a green, eco-friendly city, emphasised by the distinction as “European Green Capital 2011“. In addition, Hamburg offers an attractive business environment. The promotion of promising business sectors such as aviation or renewable energies is another Hamburg asset.

All this makes Hamburg also to one of the most attractive real estate locations in Europe. In the study “Emerging Trends 2011“, PricewaterhouseCoopers thus ranks Hamburg among the top six investment locations.
